Sustainable Travel Tips For a More Mindful & Impactful Vacation

At Ubbi Travel, crafting meaningful, mindful and impactful travel experiences is key for us. Our trips awake your senses and are designed to help you unwind and connect on a deeper level with local cultures and live unforgettable experiences.

Sustainable travel is mindful travel. We’ve put together a few sustainable travel tips to think about before, during and after your next vacation.

  • Pick green destinations

Choose places known for their environmental policies. Some examples include Panamá and Bhutan, two of the world’s only carbon-negative countries. But remember that even if a destination isn’t known for its sustainable initiatives, it doesn’t mean that you can’t travel mindfully.

  • Pack light

A lighter suitcase and minimal luggage makes for easier travel. Plus, less weight = less fuel.

  • Fly direct (or look for destinations where you don’t fly at all)

Opt to take a nonstop flight, it’s the more eco-friendly option. Or, consider a destination closer to home. Also, luxury train travel (such as Rovos Rail in Africa or Belmond) is an amazing alternative and a one-of-a-kind experience.

  • Learn local customs

Understand and respect the cultural norms of your destination before you go. Get an understanding of local norms and traditions, as well as a few key phrases in the local language.

  • Embrace slow travel

Stay longer in fewer places to reduce travel and immerse yourself more deeply into the local culture.

  • Support local and minority-owned businesses

At Ubbi Travel, we work with local businesses, as well as those owned by members of the BIPOC communities, for authentic and unique local experiences.

  • Engage with locals

Travel is all about immersing yourself in new cultures, forging connections, and engaging with locals to truly experience a place.

  • Use eco-friendly transportation

Bikes, take the train or walk (if possible!) to explore your destination. These can also give you a more intimate look at the destination.

  • Be kind with nature & wildlife

Follow a leave-no-trace approach in natural settings.

  • Give helpful feedback

Support local businesses by sharing your thoughts, which can help them grow. Reviews also make them more visible to others.

  • Tell your story

Share your experience and spread the word about it.
